From 1962-1978 I was a member of the Royal Observer Corps. For most of this time I was a ‘leading observer’, and responsible for the training of our post’s crew. In my interview I have recreated the instruction I woulg give at a meeting before an exercise explaining how a nuclear attack would be monitored by us. The blast would be recorded by the ‘Bomb Power Indicator’, the bearing of the Bomb would be indicated by the ‘Ground Zero Indicator’ and the monitoring of subsequent fall out would be done by means of the ‘fixed survey meter’.
