the bunker project / interviewee profiles / Malcolm Osborne
malcolm osborne Malcolm Osborne
experience / relation to hidden war space: BT engineer
year of birth: August 1942
period covered in interview: 1963-mid 1980s
place: Cambridge / Hertfordshire / Essex
date of interview: 28 August 2007

The interview with the Bunker Project team brought many memories flooding back. In the days of the Cold War I was employed as a Technical Officer with BT. In my interview I have tried to convey the atmosphere of secrecy, the threat of possible nuclear annihilation we all lived with, allied to the ridiculous idea that somehow we were adequately prepared should such an Armageddon actually occur.

In today’s world we are constantly reminded of the so called threat of terrorism, imagine what it was like preparing to lose all your family and friends in a nuclear holocaust. Only a chosen, vital few, would be allowed to enter the Bunkers!
